I am happy that you guys enjoyed the first part of this trip. Now, here I am with my journal from the last three days of this trip that involved a stay at a luxurious resort where Prince Charles once came to celebrate his birthday, watching sunsets, moving on to the main city Kochi on the last day, some shopping and exploring the Jewish streets.
Kumarakom is a village on Vembanad Lake in the backwaters of Kerala, southern India. You will spot canals lined up with fishermen homes and parked with houseboats. Kumarakom bird sanctuary is a famous tourist destination that is home to many species of birds and a haven for rare migratory birds.
DAY 3- Sunset Cruise and Exploring The Resort
On day 3, I planned to move to Kumarakom Lake Resort early in the morning. I did not have any agenda for this day. I was welcomed by the staff with a flower garland and coconut water and was given a property tour. This resort is HUGE! I was in no mood to move out of my room post lunch so I took a nap and then swam across the 250m long swimming pool just outside my Meandering Pool Villa. The resort had organized an evening chai and a sunset cruise which was the most calming activity I did during my stay there. Cruising across the Vembanad lake while spotting birds & fishing boats, watching the sunset and listening to the calming tunes of flute- HEAVEN. After the cruise, I was walking around the resort and spotted a monitor lizard (day made). I ended the day with a buffet meal (even though, I only ended up eating south Indian delicacies).
DAY 4- Self Care Day
I kept this day for pampering myself. Well, I did this on my entire trip but that’s what vacations are meant for, right?
I woke up early and went for yoga class by the lake that is organized by the resort every morning. Soon after having breakfast, I went to my room and spent some time doing an armpit detox, applying a face mask and doing some facial rolling. Took a nap and ordered room service. I spent the evening learning to make pots, reading near the pool, taking dips in between and enjoying the mesmerizing view. In the late evening, I went for Abhyanga at the resort’s spa. The treatment included a full body massage with Dhanwantaram Thailam and a body scrub made with sandalwood, green gram, black gram, turmeric and gooseberry powders. I ate a light meal and slept early because my body needed sleep after the massage.
KUMARAKOM LAKE RESORT, Kumarakom
I am sure my pictures have already conveyed how beautiful this property is. Everywhere you look at, you will spot butterflies, flowers, different species of birds, canals full of fish and coconut & jackfruit trees. This resort has also focussed on using sustainable and eco-friendly material for their decor. I love how they have worked on providing a luxurious place for people keeping nature intact. There is so much to do around the property. You can learn pottery and weaving, walk around the gardens, go for a cruise, practice yoga, go bird spotting or just laze around.
It is a perfect getaway for people who want to soak in nature peacefully while having the delicious food and taking in the best views with all the luxury.
DAY 5- WALKING AROUND KOCHI, SHOPPING & THE BEST SUNSET EVER!
On the last day, I moved on to the bustling city Kochi & stayed at Forte Kochi– a beautiful heritage hotel for just one night ( I wish I had more days). Each corner of this hotel is picturesque. There were so many tourist places around this stay and the beach was just 2-mins walk away.
I had zero expectations from this place because I hate being in cities but I loved the day I spent here. Soon after lunch, I packed my handbag and walked around the city. I explored the Jewish streets lined with amazing cafes, had the best coffee, bought some spices and bohemian pants and then went to the Mahatma Gandhi beach just 2 minutes away from the place I was staying at for the sunset. I witnessed the most mesmerizing sunset of my life. I wanted to soak it all in. It was SURREAL. On my way back to the hotel, it started raining which made me a happy kid. I came back, had a really heavy meal and jackfruit as dessert (which chef at Forte Kochi arranged especially for me even when the jackfruit season was over). I took a bath and spent the night listening to music & journalling while it rained.
..and I flew back to Delhi.
