I am not a great cook but these days I have started entering the kitchen to make myself a smoothie or a sorbet or some kind of healthy snack. Everyday on Instagram , I go through a lot of recipes with coconut milk or smoothies with coconut or almond milk. Almond milk did not sound appealing to me but since I love the taste of coconut in my food , I decided to give it a try. You can also find canned coconut milk but I preferred to make it on my own as I am not aware of any brand selling pure coconut milk. If you know any brand , kindly let me know in the comments below.
Coconut milk is rich in vitamins C, E, B1, B3, B5 and B6 as well as iron, selenium, calcium, magnesium and phosphorus. It is a great option for those who are allergic to animal milk. (Source)
I add it to my smoothies and now my mother uses it in some curries as well. Try making a milkshake with it , you will love how creamy it will be. And not just for food , homemade coconut milk can also be used for skin and hair. It is known to nourish hair deeply and promote hair growth. When used for skin care, coconut milk can give soft and supple skin & a radiant complexion and cleanse pores & excess sebum.
I’ve since played with a variety of recipes and have settled on a personal favorite plain version.
You’ll need –
– 1 cup grated fresh coconut
– 2 cups warm water
– Soak grated coconut in warm water for 10 minutes.
– Add it to a blender and blend for two minutes.
– Strain through a nut milk bag or a clean cloth, cool it and enjoy!
I even tried this recipe with dried coconuts but it did not taste good.
PS – I am a huge fan of coconut oil for skin and hair as well.
