Some time ago I started a new series “Ingredient Spotlight” which has been receiving a lot of love from you guys lately. I get DMs on my Instagram and Emails asking me to upload more posts in this series. Basically , I talk about any one skin and hair care ingredient , its benefits and how I use it in my skincare and haircare. Earlier we talked about Kaolin Clay and Chamomile Flowers in this series.
Today I want to recall the age old secret “Coconut Oil” which has been used since ages by our grandmonthers , mothers and us for our hair . Coconut oil for me is do everything oil. It works for every skin/hair issue and not to forget.. it smells amazing! But not every coconut oil is created equal. Be sure to use organic extra virgin coconut oil.
Usually I begin this post by explaining what actually is the ingredient that we are talking about but for coconut oil we don’t need any introduction right?
Extra Virgin basically implies that oils are typically unrefined, meaning they haven’t been exposed to chemicals that can potentially linger behind to get on your skin, or that may damage some of the natural components of the oil. (I read it somewhere a long time back)
Why you need Coconut Oil?– Coconut oil is an all-natural method to eliminate chemicals from your skincare routine. If you are new to green skincare , coconut oil would be the first product I would recommend you to buy since it’s a cost-effective way to care for your body. Using coconut oil regularly can :-
– keep wrinkles at bay
– retain skin’s moisture
– even protect the skin from infections
– strengthen skin cells
– make skin soft and glow
– promote hair growth and naturally condition dry/rough hair
Put coconut oil on anything , it will make it better…your hair , your lips , your skin and your ife.
Ways to use Coconut Oil! – ohh there are endless ways! I use coconut oil as my eyeliner remover since makeup removers can be harsh to eyes , hair oil , body moisturizer in harsh winters when nothing pacifies my skin’s thirst , lip balm when I have extremely chappy lips and for my feet. I even slather it all over my body before going for a swim. I somehow feel that it protects my skin from chlorine added to the pool.
I have heard that people use it for oil cleansing too. Never tried it though. Share if you have any experience.
